harnessing the mind

The human brain is a powerful thing. Really! – It can turn a small molehill into a gigantic mountain and that’s pretty powerful.

I’m presenting at a health & wellness seminar on the 5th of March 2013. I’ve chosen to talk about the power of the mind and how we can begin to harness this often untapped power.

Since being offered this opportunity, I’ve had many a number of kinesiology sessions around public speaking which incidentally reminded me just how powerful our mind and emotions can be. For myself, it all boiled down to being uneasy in the spotlight. And not just  in terms of public speaking. This covered all aspects of me and my personality and my life. I thought i was just shy. Nope – Just not comfortable in the spotlight. And testament to Kinesiology, since my sessions around public speaking, I’ve attended 3 events on my own where i didn’t know anyone and i’ve signed up for 3 public speaking events, the first of which is the one on the 5th March.

The other hurdle around this event for me was marketing. I used to be in marketing so I wasn’t quite sure why i had such an issue with marketing myself. During yet another kinesiology session, I came to the awareness that I was confusing sales with marketing. I don’t resonate with the sales push. Changing my perception around this was not easy and it took a few sessions to get around this too but i got there. If I want to help all these people with Kinesiology, how am I going to tell them that I can help them if I’m not putting myself out there in the spotlight or marketing myself?

It’s amazing what the mind and body will hold on to and what it can do in order to keep you from achieving what you want to (consciously or subconsciously) in order to keep you in a state of homeostasis. Keeping you the same for survival is what the body does, sometimes it just needs to be reminded that change can be a positive thing if you’re not held back by an old thought pattern.

So, here goes (personal growth at it’s best)…
